If you are a professional musician, you are welcome to become a member of Local 47 and receive all of our benefits. There are no auditions. You become a member by filling out and signing the application form and one copy of the beneficiary card and paying the join fee.

To become a member of Local 47, you may sign up online at the AFM website. For quicker processing, follow the steps below:
- Fill out the Local 47 Application Form (fillable PDF file). (If the applicant is a minor, the Bond for Minor Applicants must also be filed.)
- Print out and sign one copy of the beneficiary card.
- Fill out and sign at all of the X's.
- Enclose a check or money order for the current join fee. Visa/MasterCard are also accepted. Since the fee is pro-rated, please call the Membership Department at (323) 993-3116 for the current join fee.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION
New members are required by the Bylaws to become familiar with the benefits and services of membership as well as with the obligations that your membership places upon you. Our New Member Orientation Meetings take place at Local 47 at 2 p.m. the third Thirsday of each month.
While face-to-face orientation with officers and staff are preferred, we understand that not every new member is able to attend such a meeting, and Local 47 offers a Do-It-Yourself Orientation for those members who request it from the Secretary's Office.
MEMBERSHIP & WORK DUES
After the first year, membership dues are $190 per year ($90 for life members). Dues can be paid in full, or in six-month increments. The cost for joining for half a year is higher; semi-annual membership dues are $100 each 6 months.
Our operating monies come from two sources: annual membership dues and work dues. Whenever you perform a Union job, you pay a small percentage of the minimum wage for that job in work dues: 3% for live performance and 4% for recordings.
